Nador Lounes, known as Farid Oujdi, was born on April 3rd 1931 in the Casbah of Algiers. He grew up in Belcourt. In 1946, Oujdi entered The Academy of Music in Algiers and at 16 he started singing in concerts alongside Saci Brati Mohamed Fakhardji, Sid Ahmed Serri and Mazouni Mesakdji. Oujdi died on February 28th 2001 and was buried at El Madania.

Abderrezak Bouguetaya. A brilliant performer of chaâbi music, Abderazak Bouguetaya specialized in the qacid (epic poems). He was born and raised in Belouizdad (ex-Belcourt), a neighborhood in Algiers where chaâbi music was a passion for many. One of his famous qacidate is “Dar Essoultan” (House of the Sultan) written by Mohamed Bouteldja, who died in 1998.

Abderrezak Guenif was born in 1967 in Algiers and is a graduate of El Sendoussia school of Andalusian music. Although not having been a student of the late Guerrouabi, Abderazak considers this latter as the Master of Chaâbi music who instilled in him the love of this style.

Sid Ali Lekkam, who was born in Algiers in 1961 is an excellent interpreter of Chaâbi music. Lekkam interprets epic poems (qacidate) sung by the first generation of Chaâbi music as well as popular and modern poetry such as “Nedjma” written by Yacine Ouabed.

Mohamed Lamraoui was born on April 13 th 1963 in Dellys. In 1979, as a lead singer, he joined a band that played a variety of styles such as Chaâbi, Hawzi, and Andalusian. In 1987, he sang an unforgettable duo with Kamel Messaoudi. In addition to writing his own lyrics, Mohamed owes his poetic support to Yacine Ouabed, Mohamed Chaid Kamel Cherchar and Kaddour Afrah.

Mohamed Bellil is a native of Annaba (East of Algiers). His interprets the Malouf in a unique way and that is in a more rhythmic way. Nevertheless, he respects the Malouf tradition related to the Arab-Andalusian music at large.

Mohamed El Ghafour was born on March 5 th 1930 in Nedroma (west of Algeria ). Although a brilliant student, he dropped out of school to help his father in his weaving business. El Ghafour is known for his exemplary modesty. He once said that he sang because Cheikh Ghenim wanted him to and he continued doing so because he liked it. The Malouf or the Hawzi style that El Ghafour sings is typical to Nedroma.
