Lamia Maadini

Lamia Maadini born in Algiers within a family that had a great interest and love for andalusian music, Lamia Maadani was undeniably cradled and raised to love this music style.
Her mother, Salima Maadani, a pianist and a music teacher at the Municipal Academy of Music, encouraged both Lamia as well as her elder sister to attend music classes.
At age six, Lamia is then registered in the late Si Abdelkrim M’Hamsadji’s class. He initiated her to basic andalusian music as well to playing the mandolin.

After becoming familiar with a few modes and rhythms of “çanaa”, Lamia takes a higher course led by Mustapha Boutriche, her appointed teacher who discovers her tone and her ability to play the “Istikhbar”, a gift he will constantly help her develop.
He also initiates her to playing the lute and guides her step by step throughout the years and the different exams she takes until she wins her first prize at the Academy in 1988.
Influenced by Si Mustapha Skandrani’s support who led the Academy orchestra, Lamia plays a “nouba Dil” under his guidance during a concert. She also takes part in an attempt to harmonize the”nouba Raml” while playing under the late maestro Abdel Wahab Salim and his philarmonic orchestra.

After that, in 1986, under Nour Eddine Saoudi, she takes part in the creation of Essendoussia Association to which she stays loyal to this day.
She teaches piano lessons and always plays a part in CD making as well as in live concerts at home and abroad. Lamia performed in the Maghreb and in Europe.
In March 2003, she toured different cities in the States such as Washington DC, New York, Houston and San Francisco.
Lamia is indeed an artist but she knows how to balance her artistic life and her personal life. She takes care of her family, her son’s education and her work at the Algerian airline company.

At present and for the fourth time, Lamia treats us with an interpretation of Hawzi Aaroubi pieces cleverly selected and played with sincerity and emotion combined with technique and experience that make her trademark.
